NOTE: 23 Jun 09. I tried to get my level 32 pet trainer with +6 armor and +7 shield and could not train on a level 40 canine as I died. So apparently, the mobs have increased on their attack now. I will have to go to a lower mob which is good in a way, but nothing in the patch notes stating mob attack was increased. So take this into consideration now. The following are the basics now. Remember be flexible as patches change things that I or you will not find out till you encounter the problem. Example, no more pet training in the jail as before.NOTE: Sep 2010 Now you can get FREE Level 30-32 +10 armor now. So if you make a level 27 pet trainer, then he can equip all the armor at +10 now. Remember, the trick is you want all defense and nothing with ATTACK stats. Also, when you make level 20 (I do not know if you need a guardian or not, but get one anyway), you can get an accy from your class master. The knight master gives a nice accy for the knight which helps with evasion and stuff. Reason not to put on dexterity is that it raises critical hits. Not that much, but then you want the minimum hitting.Do not use like a knife or mining tools for hitting. I heard from one member he got banned on account he was using a herb knife for hitting the monster to pet train. Again, I have not verified this, but again good to know. Anyway, read all the sections and if you have any questions, click DISCUSSIONS and i can answer in detailSTATS of my Pet Trainer, Level 26 KnightLevel 10 pet horse (or drake) with all points on armor defense. I have on the following: Level 30 gloves +3, Level 31 shirt and leggings, both + 3, Level 27 helm & boots +3, Level 29 Beast Shield +3 and no accessories. My armor has NO blood seals on them. I am training on level 34 berserker which I found to be just right for me. . Things have changed from before the new patch, in that you had to have +6 armor. But no complaints from me as this is a lot better. Passive Skills: Canid Fencing and Vitality control must both be level 5. General skills I maxed were: Devotion - Level 5, as this will help me to level more , should i decide to do so.
Remember one thing. I said all my armor was +3. But in reality I should have stated my defense stat with the armor at +3. Because if one armor is +8, then the other pieces will not all be +3 now. I will have to get someone with +3 armor to give me the defense stat. If you had one piece of armor at +15, I am pretty sure all your other armor would not have to be plussed as +15 as you usually get the defense bonus.
Now the stats on my knight I have on constitution. Have heard too many people say to put on dexterity. Again, you must understand you want nothing to increase your attack now too. One guy in forum was trying to tell people how his pet trainer was. I laughed at him too. You see for example one armor was +4 and another was not plussed at all. To me, it would have been easier to upgrade one of the nonplussed weapons. Yea, getting +4 even at low levels is still a roll of the dice. I got +3 on all my armor now. So it is easier to get TWO +3 pieces of armor then to get one at +4 and leave the other one at +2 now.
Remember these are guidelines now so you can see what it takes to make a pet trainer. I have given you what Exactly my level 26 knight has. It is very simple too and i have been pet training on Berserkers and I have had no problem now.
STATS of Pet Trainer, Level 32 Temple Knight
I leveled the above knight to Level 31 and changed class to Temple Knight. A Templar Knight gets bonus in shield defense. Then I leveled to level 32 to get the passive skill, Wall of Belief, as it increases defense while wearing a shield. I had all armor at +3. I find that I could only train pets from about level 18 above. I tried to pet train a level 15 horse, but I was slowly taking hit points and not recovering fast enough. During the 200% Heaven Stone upgrade event, I got all my armor to +6 and the shield to +7. With the new armor now, I am able to train a horse from level 1 on up now.
With the Armor at +6, my main knight will be able to use it. Then when my main gets to a higher level, my pet trainer will still be able to use the +6 armor. Just a matter of trading back and fourth.
Now at this level 32, you will train in the jail with the Spire dike. Even though you may be able to train with the other dogs there, they will attack your pet, as I have found out. Remember when you ever first think you have found a mob to train on, stick around or check it out shortly to make sure the mob is attacking you and not the pet.
PET TRAINER LEVEL 21
Now you max the 2 skills you need Candid, and Vitality. You wear all +3 armor shield also, and go train on a butcher now
What kind of character makes the best pet trainer???
Answer: Basically, if you are going to train a pet, you would want to make the knight your pet trainer. He will not be your main character now, but a secondary character whose sole function basically is to train and level your pet, when you are away from your computer. Reason being, knights have a good defense and fast healing. So for the first 26 levels my knight only maxed two skills: Vitality control and canid fencing. These as you will see give you benefits from fast healing. The knight has the fastest normal heal rate compared to the other characters now. Then when you get to level 31, you want to make your pet trainer a Templar Knight as they get the defensive bonus now with the shield. Again, you want maximum defense and minimum attack.
Now yes, you can make any character your pet trainer. But once you have figured out the armor combo and monster to train on it is easy. Others try to train at various levels with their main character. But they spend time, trying to figure out the best monster to train on and changing armor and stuff to try to figure out the best combo of armor so he will not die.
So once you have your pet trainer equipped and know what monster you can train on, then you just get on to the knight as the pet trainer, lure a monster to train on and go to sleep knowing your knight or the monster will not die.
Also, some people, for reasons whatever, like to pet train from thier main character. Again, you just read all the stuff here and apply it to your character now. Sometimes, with your main character, you can pet train with one monster, but only for a short time or possible a long time. But again, trial and error, to try and get that MAX afk time.
NOTE: Throughout this section, one thing you may do is to get your pet trainer a red name. Reason being, with enough "Evil Points" your pet trainer will suffer a hitting penalty. That is, instead of doing 35 points damage, he may do only 28. The damage depends on the amount of "Evil Points" you have. How do you get evil points? By PKing another person. You may get a friend and tell thim to make a secondary character that you can PK a lot. Then when you get enough evil points, then he can simply delete the character. Now i do not know the amount of evil points you need to get to affect your hitting. But you can never have too much. The principles of pet training is for you to hit the monster, even if you do one point of damage now.
This is tricky too which is why i have not attempted it, though it sounds reasonable. You see though you get a hitting penalty what the other people fail to address is that you suffer a defensive penalty too. But it is easy to upgrade armor to raise the defense stats up now. This is something for you to be aware of now. Again, there are no stats just guesses on how much damage you suffer from evil points now. You would have to hit the monster and record his hits and the hits you give him. Then get some evil points and see how much difference the hits from you and the monster are. If you are hitting the monsters less and the monster is hitting you harder then just simple upgrade some of the armor more.
Remember if you are going to get to level 31, then you need to get enough mana to get the Level 30 Mana Break Skill. This skill is required to change class to Temple Knight or Royal Knight and some 50,000 gold too. I could tell you what you need, but best for you to look it up yourself. Go to the section where it says "Skills - crafting and personal" then click Knight General skills to see what you need.
I suggest to get Templar Knight as this knight is more defense then the Royal Knight. Also, the Templar gets a slight bonus using a shield now. Again, DO NOT use any stat points. You will not need the general skills or special skills. There is one skill where your critical hits are improved, but you well know you do not need ANYTHING that will increase your hitting power.
I got my Level 31 Templar Knight and trying now to find the NEW monster to train on now. I was killing the gnolls before. With each new level, sometimes you may have to change monsters and add new armor if you can. I turned level 31 and FORGOT about getting new armor. My intelligence is not that high then, lol. Anyway, trying to get the money to upgrade armor. I had bought some cheap level 50's armor and weapons now. Someone was selling a level 57 duals +4 for 2 mill gold, so I bought them, but will turn around and try to get 4 mill for them.
This time I will go Templar Knight on my main, but duals are always easy to sell though. And surprisingly the shields are usually cheap since there are not that many Templars around.
What level of monster do I train on to level my pet???
Very simple. You will train on a monster from about 4-6 levels above you. Again, this depends on your armor stats now. If you had level 15 armor you could train on a higher monster then if you had level 6 armor. Again, trail and error on your part. But once you find out which one, then you are set. Then it is just a matter of finding somewhere SAFE to train at.
Remember to look at the mob list to check if the monster is not aggro and attacks pets. Like the horned beast is a bad choice to pet train, because eventually it will start hitting your pet. Training on salamanders is bad too, as I had them attack my pet. If I had been gone, i would have had a dead pet for sure. But the level 34 Berserker is just right for me.
The key to this is to find a monster that you can hit with your fist and the monster will not die and can recover fast enough. Then once you find the monster, then it is trail and error to be able to find your right armor combo so you will NOT DIE.
What are the stats of a pet trainer?
Answer: This is where everyone has a different opinion. I put all my stats on constitution with + 3 armor and this works for me at level 26. Others say to put it all on dexterity. Then if not, do nothing with the stats, study the pros and cons and then put them where you feel like. Remember, you have to be level 31 to go to Creon to change stats now. Constitution gives me a few HP but again, it is in the armor that helps a lot. Reason you do not want to put it into strength for example because you want to hit the monster not kill it. You will hit it hard with your bare hands "not weapons" and equipped with a shield , enough that it will recover from your hits from your hand. If you hit it too hard, then it may last an hour or so till it dies. You will find that with dexterity you acutally hit harder. Dexterity is how THIS game applies it now and not in the traditional sense.
Remember the stats on your accessories. I have accessories with all defensive stats except two with 8 dexterity. Well if I take one of the accessories with Dexterity off, my hits go from 33 to 32, from hitting the gnoll. So this proves that dexterity can affect the amount of damage you do hit. So be flexible and think now. Get something with defensive and NO dexterity on the accessory.
Watch what you read too. If you notice some people say to have +4 armor and some other armor NO PLUS. Think on this. It is a lot easier to have all armor +3. There is no such thing as too much defense now.
What about the extra sp that my knight acquires?
Answer: By the time you reach level 26, you should have enough sp accumulated to actually max weapons smithing. Here you could actually get extra sp for your knight now. What I ended up doing was making him the weapons and armor maker, and a few other crafting skills, like flawless stone process for one. You can go sp farming with your pet trainer if you want. This way you can get the crafting skills you need.
Then being in a Guild 6+ or higher, you can donate xp and keep the sp. This way you can stay at one level and not worry about leveling to the next. Remember any secondary character but the main you need to get the crafting skills you may need for later. You want your main character to have its sp spent for general and special skills, NOT crafting skills.
Once those are done, they you can enjoy the fruits of pet training along with the other crafting skills you have. It might be slower, but then when you get level 40 and above and you have armor and weapons skills, you will be glad you spent that extra time getting them with your pet trainer.
The reason to get weapons and armor making skills, so that at higher levels you can make your stuff right away and not have to wait or look for someone trustworthy do it for you. Another benefit is that you get lucky and get some cheap armor and weapons manual and you can make them and sell them. Nice little sideline to make some extra cash, as they say. But the game is advancing that having the smithing skills will be obsolete now that upgrading is getting easier to do and easier to buy upgraded armor now.
After acquiring all your skills that you want, then you can just level without any worry for sp now. Once you have got the sp you need to get the skills then it is pointless to sp farm anymore now.
How high should my pet leveler be?
Answer: I made my first pet leveler level 23, because that is what this other person told me to do, as i had not experience with it. But what they failed to tell me was that in trying to make my pet to level 31, that I would be constantly feeding my pet at shorter intervals. So I decided that level 26, would be close enough. I did not want to spend the long time to get another level as I wanted to level on my main character now. You want to get your pet trainer at a level where you can have Maximum AFK time. Or in other words, to have the max time before you have to feed your pet again. When he goes hungry, the pet does not level, even though you are still hitting the monster.
If your pet is one level above you or below you, then you will have the max of about 8 hours or so before you need to feed him. At level 23, i was feeding my pet about every hour to get him to level 37. But now I have my pet trainer at level 26 training on berserkers. I figure I can be AFK long enough as i will be pet training my pet pony to level 31. Besides if he goes hungry, he does not level nor die. Remember it is the Red line, Vital power, that when that goes to 0, your pet dies. My thing was that it takes time to get my pet trainer to level 28 and I was trying to get the minimum level to train a pet to level 31 to sell. To train a pet to level 37, I would need a pet trainer about level 32 and again, i do not like the time to level the pet trainer.
Time Table for Pet training
| L26 Knight/L30 Pet | Time: 1 hour | 94 pet points | food: 37 points |
| 7960 points to L31 |
|
|
|
If you are away, and the pet runs out of food, then he will not level any or can not move, till you feed him with stones. Your pet dies when the top line or red line goes to 0, from being hit. I heard that when sympathy got down to 0 the pet dies. I am currently trying to get my pet to 0 to see if he does die or not. You can see from above table the time required for level 26 knight. I will level the knight one more level and add stats as I get them to give you an idea of the time involved.
Every time your pet trainer levels, then it is another long time trying to figure out what monster to train on. But again, be flexible and experiment. When you think you have the monster stay around a little to make sure the combination works.
Just remember, that when your pet trainer and the pet are the same level, expect about 8 hours of training before you need to feed your pet now.
What armor or accessories do i need to make a pet trainer?
Answer: Well this is kind of the hard part. If you have a level 26 pet trainer like me, you will have no weapon, equip a shield, and have armor at +3 and the pet defense as high as you can get it. Now this is a trial and error as finding out what armor you need. Remember any armor with seals for hitting harder or faster you do not need. Now if you have armor with plus for attacking or hitting, you can get a purification gem to wipe out your blood seals.
You will definitely not have a weapon equipped as you will be hitting with your hand. You will hit a monster about 6 levels higher then you. Remember these are guidelines only. You have to look at your blood seals of your armor and shield now. If you have some accessories with evasion then those would be good to have equipped. Reason for the trial and error, depends on your gold situation. Hopefully, you have enough gold to get your armor to a "+" that will help you.
To have a successful pet trainer you have to be able to hit the monster and takes hits too, so neither of you die. You may have to take things off or reequip armor to see what works for you now.
Remember, accessories with dexterity will affect how hard you hit the monster now. Again, you have to experiment and see what works now. Now if you get high + armor, then you would not need accessories now.
Then once you have figured out what works for you then you just leave the armor in place. Then if you can leave your computer on over night, then you just get your pet trainer out, find your monster, and lure him to your favorite training spot.
Also, every time your pet levels, put the pet technical point on the defense skill. This helps you on your defense now.
Where is a good place to pet train?
Answer: Make sure you pet train on Non-PvP servers. Reason is that you do not want anyone to kill you or your pet. Yes some people do that just for the fun of it. What i have done is to scout out locations to the edges of the map. These are the best spots. Remember it has to be a spot that you can lure your monster to train on.
Now if is legal to be AFK while pet training. What is illegal is to use any outside programs, micro programs or any other program to aid you in your pet training. So if you just load up the game and go pet train you are good to go. Some people take it upon themselves to go kill pets or you, because you do not answer they figure you will not see them. They are under the "Urban Myth" that you can not be AFC while pet training. Aeria has stated you can be AFK at pet training as long as you do not have ANY outside programs aiding you. Make sure you know how to take a screen shot in case a person kills your pet as this is illegal now.
Can I just level my pet trainer and not worry about sp?
Yes, you can directly level your pet trainer and not worry about the sp. You can get skills as you go along or try to save your sp and DON'T get killed. lol But by the time i got to level 23 I was about to max the weapon smith skills now. Another option, is to go to the temple at level 10 and get 3300 sp from the level 10 zombies there. Now in the Velpist Temple if you are at the same level as the monster in there, you will get 3300 sp from that monster now. Then in the Prokion Temple, it is 5500 sp. At around level 12 more or less you can go to the Prokion Temple and get more sp and xp then at the Velpist Temple now.
Besides, you will find with experience that you get more xp points in the temples then hunting outside. These high xp and sp only applies to the Velpist Temple in Randol and the Prokion Temple in Dratan.
I am in the jail training on the canine and after a while he disappears. What am I doing wrong?
Easy, There is a trick to this. You are teleported inside to the jail and you are facing the doorway to the next room where you will lure your canine. Now standing there to the left is a small hallway, between the landing pad and the wall.
You lure the canine in this hallway now. BUT you have to lure him straight in. I usually do this till i hit the wall. Now every so often, the canine loses aggro and will try to return back to the room. BUT because you are still hitting it, it will aggro on you again. Now, the reason the canine disappears is because when it wants to return the pathway is blocked.. Remember where you landed inside. Now if you lure the canine to the back of the room in the middle, it will disappear because when it loses aggro, it hits the landing pad. So again, just lure the canine in the hallway there, till you hit the wall.
Now the left side, if you lure it in STRAIGHT, then it will not disappear. Of course, you have to check every few hours, cuz when the canine loses aggro, it goes a few feet back and you are still hitting will move also, since in a way you are AUTOMATICALLY hitting it.
Now if you do it right and say come back in a few hours or eight, depending, you might be in the middle of the room still hitting the canine. Remember the more levels the pet is over you, then the faster it eats. That is why i like level 32 TK with +10 armor. You can start from level 1 and get the max afk training time till it gets to level 34 where time starts to diminish slowly but not that much.
CONCLUSION:
Well this sums up pet training. This is not a bible for pet training only guidelines. But if you follow this guidelines I have set out, you can have a successful pet trainer.
Remember, you can just level your pet trainer to the level you want him to be to pet train and not worry about sp. Then get a 3d character to be at level 17, to sp farm at the Prokion Temple to get your crafting skills. Of course, another option is to get to level 23, and then you can level on the orcs in the Prokion Temple for 5500 sp, more gold drops, and definitely better armor/weapon drops too. Then whatever skills your pet trainer maxes, then your 3d character can get the others. Why you could even power level your pet trainer too, lol. I have my pet trainer at level 27 and now I will have to level one more time. I want a little more time AFC to get the pet to level 31.
In Summary:
1. Make a knight to be the pet trainer. He will only get 2 skills. Canid Fencing and Vitality Control.
2. Do not worry about the sp you get. On the stat points, put it on constitution if you have to use them. Remember, Dexterity can increase your Offense which you DO NOT want.
3. Armor should +3. Shield at +3. Preferably no blood seals as you do not want any seals such as to add to your attack now.
4. You hit the mob with your hands. At level 21, try the treants or even the butchers. Look at the monster guide for the levels of monsters. So at level 24, you try a mob 4 levels above and it is trial and error till you figure out what you can hit and what can hit you without you both dying.
5. Start off your first pet trainer around level 21, so you can kind of figure out what to do. Again, trial and error. Once you get the knack of what to do , advance to a higher level. Remember what I said above when I reached level 32 now.
6. Find a "secret" spot to train on. It is easy now, since everyone goes to the Temple to train. In the "good, ole days" there were people all around. Now the land is barren of monster killers now.
If you got any questions, ask away.
