Last Chaos Weapons & Armor Upgrades (Under construction 29 Sep 09)

See: Additional Effects of Upgrading | Smelting Stones | Heaven Stones | Extreme Stones | Blood Seals

One of the features of Last Chaos is the ability to "upgrade" WEAPONS and ARMOR. They can be "plussed" using a choice or mix of different stones/items:

This is a list of items used for upgrading.
A. Heaven Stones
D. Smelting Stone
G.Lucky Smelting Stones
J. Event Upgrades
M. Prime Stone
B. Book of MeldsE. Platinum Refining StonesH.Chaos Smelting StoneK. Blood SealsN. Accessory Forge Stone
C. Item Mall UpgradesF. Extreme StoneI. Master Stone
L. Rune of Protection I - RoP I
Rune of Protection II - RoP II
O. Rune of Enchantment

You can also plus an item by using a Bonus Book of Melding with a cover for the item. The Bonus Book of Melding gives anywhere from +1 to +3, and lasts for 30 days. You can plus a weapon or pieces of armor in this way up to a maximum of +15. If you perchance need to sell the weapon or armor that used the Bonus Book of Melding, then you simply buy a Book of Unmelding to seperate the cover and the item. You can not sell or trade any item that has the bonus book of meld on it. Bonu Book of Melds that are opened are not tradeable

You can use a Platinum refining stone with its +1 to +3 upgrade to the armor or weapon that is not covered, and the effects last for 24 hours real time. With the refining stone it is possible to get +16. Platinum refining stones that are opened or not, are tradeable.

You can also upgrade weapons and armor, from level 1 - 73 for armor and Leve 1-69 for weapons, with the use of Blood Seals. These add bonuses to different abilities such as dexterity, evasion, mana, health, defense, etc. A weapon has 5 seals and armor carries 3 seals on them. You may buy the blood seals for 1000 gold from Merchant Geres in Randol, or one of the other merchants in Dratan, and Merac. Blood Seals are used for armor up to level 73 and weapons up to 69.

Upgraded weapons and armor get more powerful the higher you plus them. Not only in attack or defense, but at higher levels, other bonuses are granted to the character. Alongside these bonuses, a visual special effect is granted at certain levels. The first of these visual effects appears at +4: a soft white glow for weapons and a small glowing fairy for armor.

Upgrading armor, especially at higher levels, can be a frustrating task. Failure in upgrading an item can mean the destruction of that item. When an upgrade succeeds, it can make all the risk involved feel worth it for that perfect item.

For armor to get a fairy, the chest piece, gloves, pants, and boots must all be +4 or higher level. For example, +5 chest, +4 pants, +4 boots, and +6 gloves would have a +4 effect fairy. Then with horse armor or if your 4 pieces of armor are +15, you get a bigger, brighter fairy.

*"Big Fairy/+15 Duals" Small Fairy/+15 Duals

Knight with big fairy+15 duals pic 2 Knight with little fairy, +15 duals Just remember to sell armor or weapons with covers you need to used the book of unmelding to revert the weapon or armor so that you may sell or trade it. Also, at the top right corner of the window where the radar is, is the Last Chaos time. You can use this to give yourself and idea on how much longer your weapons cover or gang outfit will last.

With the Armor smithing skills and Weapon smithing skills maxed, it makes upgrading weapons and armor almost too easy. But to be on the safe side please have a lot of HS's or Heavenstones to help you upgrade your weapons and armor. Although failures or breaks may happen less with these skills maxed, it is still possible for upgrades to fail. It is very important to read the section in the Strategy Guide on How to Upgrade with Heaven Stones.
Remember, the best time to upgrade is during the Upgrade events. Upgrade events are random. Aeria still has server problems with these events so they may reappear when they can figure out the problems caused by these events.

To upgrade an item, suggest to go to Guild Hall or anyplace with NOTHING on the radar. Anyway, you drag the HS on the item you wish to upgrade. You get a window that pops up. The square is to place your RoPs there.

If you don't have these skills maxed please have Runes of Protection Lvls 1 and 2 to help you. It is easier to upgrade with these with you, you have less of a chance for your weapons and armor to break. There are also very expensive.

Aeria now has "Upgrade Events." Some are announced and some are at random.
A. Heaven Stones
The HS may upgrade any item up to +15. You can upgrade up to +3, but after that suggest to use RoP to ensure you will not break the item.

B. Book of Melding

There are 3 items for this: Big Book of Melding, Bonus Book of Melding and Big Book of UnMelding.

1. Big Book of Melding - This is used to Meld or join a cover to a weapon or a gang outfit to armor. This Meld does not give any bonuses. It is simply used to meld say a cover to a +15 weapon, just for looks. To use it, just click it in your inventory. A window will appear and press confirm. Then in the next window all you do is place the item you wish to meld and the weapon or armor to be melded. You could use this to say, meld a Weapon at +18. You will just want to have a "new look" for your weapon. This will be for looks only. The armor or weapons covers are good for 30 days. Exception is if you use the sunglasses. At the present, the sunglasses are the only item that you can meld now, as of Aug 2011.

2. Bonus Book of Melding - This Bonus Book when opened may yield +1, +2, or +3. Once the book is open, it is untradeable. The Bonus Book may bring a max value of +17 to a weapon or armor piece. So if you have a +13 weapon and meld a +3 Bonus Book of Meld, the maximum value you will get is +16. If you have a Weapon at +16 and use either a +2 meld book or +3 Meld book, then again, the maximum value is +17.
At the present, the sunglasses are the only item that you can meld now, as of Aug 2011. To get sunglasses to meld, go to PATCH NOTES. Once you are in the patch notes at the LC forum, every patch note has a section at the bottom to get the sunglasses. Just follow the instructions

3. Big Book of UnMelding - With the weapon or armor melded, the item is not tradeable. To take off the item to trade or sell, you would have to purchase the Big Book of UnMelding. Simple click the book and put the item in the square and confirm. The book then separates the two so that you will have an item that now is trade-able. Now if you unmeld an item, the cover or outfit is still good. It will not vanish from your inventory till the 30 days are up. So if you had a weapon with cover for 2 weeks and then upgrade your weapon to the next level. You could unmeld your old weapon and use the cover on your new weapon, which at that time would have about 2 weeks left. Make sure you buy the correct covers also for your item. Duals sword covers will not work with single sword covers. That is, if you have dual swords you would purchase the Knight Strange Dual Sword Covers. Then the Single Sword, used by Templar Knights, you would purchase the Knight strange Sword Cover. If you purchase an armor outfit, look at purchasing the western outfit as that has a cover for the head

At the present, the sunglasses are the only item that you can meld now, as of Aug 2011. To get sunglasses, you have to go to PATCH NOTES. Once you are in the LC Forum Patch Notes, then just click at the bottom the link to get sunglasses and follow the instructions. What is good, is that there is NO TIME limit on the sunglasses. I would suggest to buy one EXTRA unmeld book, just in case they decide to stop selling them. Another thing, once you get to your next set of armor, you can unmeld the present helm. Then use the sunglasses to meld to the next level of helm you wish to wear.

C. Item Mall Upgrades

Now if you go to the Item Mall or Web Item Mall, they have a vast list of stuff you can buy to upgrade with. You have to have money to buy "Aeria Points" or "ap" to but the item mall items. Even if you do not have money, it is good to look at the stuff, so you can see what is available and what each item does. The reason to do this because later on if you put in for free ap and save it, you will know what to buy. If you do get the free ap, SAVE IT. That way when you get enough you can buy a 2 for 1 package versus just buying stuff one by one. A double package can be worth 2 - 6 times more then buying each item separately.

By looking in the mall you can see the cost ap of items and then figure out what the gold is worth for your server. Remember if you ever buy an item in the item mall, you can leave it in storage in the item mall storage now. You can also buy stuff and then send it as a gift to another member now.

D. Smelting Stones

These are white stones that you may get from the transmuter. You may transmute a PLAIN weapon and get TWO smelts. Armor smelted only gives you One smelt. These work like HS in a way. But you only use these to get an item up to +3 now. After that if it fails, then the item may break. I find that upgrading an item in the guild hall or outside does not matter now.

These would be used for low level armor as the weapons to be smelted are cheap to buy. But when you get to L31 and change class, you get a Free Level 30-32 +10 armor and 2 - Level 33 +10 weapons (one for each class).

E. Platinum Refining Stones

These are also called PRS. Now they come unopened. Once you click them , then you may get a +1, +2, or +3 PRS. They are tradeable also. They will give any item the plus up to +17. So if you have a +14 and say use a +3, you will still get a +17 stats. If you have an item at +15 and use a PRS +3, you only get the Max stat of +17 now. And you just wasted a good PRS since +3 PRS are hard to get. You may also use a PRS on a covered item also. Presently, the sunglasses are the only thing you can use a Bonus Meld book on.

F. Extreme Stones

This stone, ES, is used to upgrade any item ONLY once and then only to get up to +14. When you get a piece of armor, you will see that it says "May use Extreme Stone." Usually I upgrade my stuff to +13 and then use the ES to get +14. The ES can only be used once so if you have +14, you could not use the ES to get +15. Since, I got my final set of armor , Level 135x, I upgraded and at +14, I used either an armor stone or +17 to get the item to +15.

NOTE: If you sell a Master Stone +17 in Sarissa, then look around to find any armor at +15 you need. With me, at the time, I could not find what I wanted as far a Knight armor, so since I buy a lot of ap and get Master Stones it was easier to get the item to +15 with the Master Stone. Again, this is my preference. Since this was the last set for me, I went ahead and upgraded to +15.

G. Lucky Smelting Stone - LSS
These are really nice to have. The LSS will upgrade any item to +6 (without breaking). Now when you upgrade to +4 you will see the usual window to put a RoP in, but DISREGARD this now. This is a standard upgrade window and the LSS is guaranteed now. Normally, you may upgrade an item to +3 with smelts or HS, then use the LSS to get the Item from +4 to +6. Then from there you would use HS and RoP to finish upgrading the item.

H. Chaos Stones - CS

These are the Cadillac of Stones. These will upgrade ANY item, guaranteed, up to +12. But as they are expensive, you might use them to upgrade from +10 to +11, then from +11 to +12. I foolishly upgraded one item to +12, but at the time they were so easy to get when the Chaos Balls first came out. Now, the Devs have down graded the percentage so the CS are really rare now to get.

I. Master Stone - MS

These new item is the Ultimate in upgrading. They can upgrade any item up to +26 as that is the cap at the moment. At the present, Master Stones are won in the item mall Loot Wheel, Armor Forge, the Loot Wheel Jackpot, and events. You can also buy them from people selling the master stones. TIP: Check the trader for them also. \\

Depending on the Master Stone +, that you have you are able to upgrade ONE plus, to the plus of the Master Stone you have. Example: If you have a +19 Master Stone, you can get ANY item, one plus upgrade, up to +19. You have a bow at +15 you could get it upgraded one time to +16. But if you have a +19 bow, you could not upgrade it to +20 now.

Master Stones come in: +17. +19, +21, +23, +25, +26. Starting from the +17 MS, prices go up and rather drastically. In Sarissa, the +17 is like 1.7 billion, then +19 around 1.9 Billion, then it jumps with the +21 selling for around 6 billion. Check the prices on your server. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy the plussed item, then to save for the Master Stones and upgraded it. Of course, some people will sell the armor or weapon at a ridiculously high price.

Currently, master stones are won on events like raffles, the loot wheel, and the loot forge. Then you can buy them from other people too.

They have an NPC to upgrade the masterstone for your gear in Dratan now. Basically, you click the NPC, a window appears with two squares. One you put the masterstone in, and the other your gear and click. Sure beats sending in the RT.

NOTE: Remember, each level takes longer to level. One important thing to think about is if you go get a MS, that of upgrade an item. will you have the item for a long time. Some people want to get that one item to +15. As for me, I have 4 that I am saving for my L135x armor. I figure to get 4 pieces to +16 as that armor will probably be the last I get for a good year. The mondshine armor is not that good. Then they will have to raise the level cap again meaning, I can fight higher monsters for more xp then I am doing now. But again, I figure a good 6 months, (GUESSING NOW) till any cap is raised or any NEW quests for the high levels.

Also, I was able to level to L160, without an Master Stone upgrades on armor. I just had a Level 133 +25 duals. I might have done it different now. I would have gotten say +15 duals and then gotten L157 duals upgraded to +25. I did not realize the time to level at L157, would take this long. Yes, I would have leveled slower to L157 with Just L133 +15 duals, but I would have made up the time at L157 also. Again, it is foresight. But again, no one knew.

Again, this is something to think about. Remember it is your Master Stone and you do what you think best for you. Just trying to give you something to think about.

M. Prime Stone

Now this is truly the Ultimate in upgrading. The Prime Stone will upgrade ANY item to +16. So again, if you have a bow at +0 or +14, it would upgrade either to +16.

STRATEGY TIP - If you have that special weapon/armor at +14, you might consider getting it upgraded with the Prime Stone to +16. WRONG. What you do, is to look around for a Plain weapon/armor +0 that you want upgraded. Use the prime stone to get it to +16. Then you could sell the other upgraded weapon/ armor that you have upgraded at +14 and make some money.

Prime Stones are available in LC event, loot wheels, master forge, and other people selling them. I got one, during a promotion event. They announced it ONCE on Sarissa. That to get a prime stone, that in the next 3 hours if you played the Loot Wheel 20 times, you would get on. In those 3 hours, they did not repeat the message either. So sometimes, you have to be in the right place and right time to get lucky now.

Once you get a Prime Stone, use this link to get your item upgraded.

N. Accessory Forge Stone

This will instantly unlock a seal on any accessory or max a single seal's upgrade level.

O. Rune of Enchantment

This will unlock that 6th seal on the armor or weapon.

For example: You have a Level 137 Arcane Armang Helm, blue, with the 5 evasion seals. Now if you apply the stone to this, then it would unlock the 6th seal of this helm which is: Skill Cool Down Reduction:30%

Or if the gear has 4 seals, then applying the stone would give you 5 seals. But to me, it would be worth the wait to buy that gear you want with the 5 seals, then apply the stone to get that 6th seal you want. Just make sure you know what the 6th seal is for the gear you want now. You can not get any seal you want, but ONLY what is given for that gear. Up to Level 145, each gear has its own unique 6th seal. So you would not find any cast pants. When you go from L146 and above, then the seals change. Like I have on L146 pants with the cool down for the 6th seal. Now the Level 136 knight pants are better defense, but I wanted the extra cast though for cool down.

It is possible to have a Blue evasion item with 4 seals and the 6th seal. So it is possible to get all 5 seals with the Rune of Enchantment.

All of this is stuff you need to know and as you progress you will learn on what to do. Remember to read the "Last Chaos Strategy Guide" section for tips on upgrading and other tips, you will need to be a success in Last Chaos.

Stats for upgrading the helm with sunglasses using RK stats. So using the +3 or +2 bonus meld gives you the same defense. Only thing is that the defense stats on the helm remain the same, but the total stats change on the window for some reason.

So, do not waste a +3 bonus meld on the sunglasses melding to helm. Then at +16 the defense was lowered, which is strange.

Well, I don't know if it's just me, a new patch or just a glitch somewhere, BUT! when I upgrade my armor or weapon to +13, it no longer says, Able to Use Extreme Stone, and no I have not used an extreme stone yet and yes it did say able to use extreme stone when it was +12, so I don't know if anyone else seems to have run into this problem, I will try to get some more items to +13 and see if it still does it and will post back later on.
