I pasted the info but too many words, so here is the link. Just change the title from "Selling or Trading your Pet' to "How to sell in Merchant Mode." They are both the same thing just different title. And i bet you are not even level 10 yet, lol. That, You must have selected items for trading, is just another way of saying, you ain't selling dung today, big boy. lol But the below link will get you started. i have had that problem there are a few fixes. The one most prominent is that when you close the shop you just had up sometimes you will have 2x as many materials as you just had. I.E. i had 30 moonstones for sale but i put them at the wrong price, so right when i opened the shop i closed it i went down to the iunventory area and then it said i had 60. I thought "whoa free 30 ms!" but when i put them in the top window it said "must have selected items for trading". occasionally i also got a glitch where you could put up items that were equipped, untradeable or one they made untradeable. Most of these will result in the "you must have selected items for trading" screen. Also you must be over lvl 10 in order to start merchant mode

Yeah i wasn't lvl 10 , now i'm lvl 12 and now i can set up a shop
